CARE seeks a world of hope, tolerance and social justice, where poverty has been overcome and people live in dignity and security.
Who We Are
CARE is one of the world's largest private international humanitarian organisations, committed to helping families in poor communities improve their lives and achieve lasting victories over poverty. Founded in 1945 to provide relief to survivors of World War II, CARE quickly became a trusted vehicle for the generosity of millions. Our reach and mission have greatly evolved and expanded since. Today, CARE International, a confederation of 11 CARE organisations, strives to be a global force and partner of choice within a worldwide movement dedicated to ending poverty.
We partner with a multitude of local, national and international organisations but are not managed by any government agency or religious group. Our independence affords us credibility wherever and with whomever we work.
CARE is efficient, independent and accountable. More than 90 percent of our expended resources support programme activities. Less than 10 percent of expended resources go toward administrative and fund-raising expenditures.
What We Do
In more than 60 countries around the world, CARE is working with poor communities to find lasting solutions to poverty.
We look at the big picture of poverty and go beyond the symptoms to confront the underlying causes. With a broad range of programmes based on empowerment, equity and sustainability, CARE seeks to tap human potential, to leverage the power of people and, in doing so, to unleash a vast force for progress.
Our goal of overcoming poverty means working to ensure that every person enjoys at least the minimum standards required to live with dignity and security. This includes having enough food to eat and clean water to drink, having access to health care, basic education and economic opportunity, and having the ability to participate in decisions affecting one's family and community.
