CONTRACTUAL WORK FOR SOCIAL WORKER OR HEALTH PROFFESSIONAL TO STRENGTHEN ORPHAN AND VULNERABLE CHILDREN SERVICES TROUGH COMMUNITY BASED ORGANISATIONS IN FREE STATE.
Contractual work from July to September 2006, with an opportunity for a further one year extension. To assess, train and mentor community based organizations to strengthen their services to orphan and vulnerable children (OVC) and their caregivers in Free State.
Applicants should have a professional qualification in either social work or the health sciences. S (he) must have worked directly with children and families for at least 3 years; good relationships with the range of government services for OVC in the Free State; must have 2 years training and mentoring experience in child and family services, and willing to travel extensively across the province.

Background:
The work is spread across approximately 4 CBO/NGOs in Motheo and Thabo Mofutsyane Districts. They tend to be concentrated in Bothshabelo, Qwa Qwa and Bloemfontein.
CARE’s Local Link project targets households affected by HIV and AIDS through integrated programs which include economic, psychosocial support and advocacy interventions. Implementation is through local civil society organizations.
Responsibilities include:
Programmatic:
Strengthen partners OVC service programs: assess the strengths, weakness, opportunities for innovation and gaps in services to children and their caregivers using participatory approaches and field based visits. Provide short on-site training to staff and volunteers. Provide ongoing follow-up and support through field visits and on- site “supervision” and mentoring.
Identify the training needs of volunteers and staff. Assist in developing and implementing provincially based training to meet the above. Develop appropriate field based support to follow-up on the training.
Administrative:
Document his /her work and submit quarterly reports
Provide monthly report (maximum 2 pg) to Free State Coordinator)
Work with the project manager and provincial coordinator when necessary.
A half day monthly meeting with CARE’s Local Links provincial staff
